The best reference by far was the book mentioned below. It helped me in terms of technical specifications, detailed drawings and background information.

As far as deciding upon the required dimensions for the upsized building (mine), I had many discussions with my tutor Stuart and referred to other large wooden buildings such as the Vikingskipet Olympic Arena in Hamar.
I found that all the technically specific references were written for engineers and extremely difficult to understand.

I also speculated as to the specifications of the additional office floor and glazing on either end, however, I referred to alternate demonstrations for similar examples.

Just thought I'd let you know that the rernderings are going well and I'll post a couple soonish.

Hey guys!

I've started on the drawings in auto cad and I figured that if I'm already doing a front elevation in order to do the modelling, we might as well just use that pic for the presentation so you two don't have to do it. :)

Progress so far...

For our construction project we've decided to model Shigeru Ban's 'Imai Daycare Centre', Odate, Akita, Japan, 2001.


So far, we have researched the building, found plans and details, researched materials and construction methods for each element and decided upon a design schedule. We've also allocated responsibility for the detailing of certain elements and decided upon our individual 5X5 areas. The site has been assessed and we have come to a layout resolution that allows for circulation, parking, site elevations and drainage. We are currently at the stage of specifying the required dimensions for structural elements as we are adapting a small scale building to a large scale.

Yeah! We're up and running!
